These two “MASSIVE NEW Engines” will change aviation forever! here's why
In the competitive landscape of commercial aviation, the engine has played a central role, with manufacturers updating their engines to keep older aircraft models viable. Notably, Boeing's 7 3 7 NG and Max series have extended the model's lifespan to over 57 years, and Airbus' Neo series has found success by upgrading engines for increased efficiency. The ingenuity of some engines is such that they have been recognized by the Guinness World Records. However, achieving a world record does not guarantee that one engine will be enough to transform aviation history. But with current development, such engines actually exist. Find out in this episode of Flig Avia: What are these engines? How are they made? And why are they changing the industry?

INCREASE IN CFM
The first to mention should be the revolutionary CFM Rise innovation for sustainable motors. This initiative is a collaboration between Safran Aircraft Engines of France and GE Aerospace. The project was launched by CFM in June 2021 and the aim of the partnership is to develop an engine compatible with sustainable aviation fuels and hydrogen, with the aim of reducing CO2 emissions and fuel consumption by 20 %. To understand the importance of the CFM RISE engine, it is crucial to briefly review the evolution of aircraft engines.

Jet engines have undergone a remarkable transformation from their simple beginnings to today's advanced turbofan engines, which offer high bypass ratios for improved performance. However, the search for efficiency has led to heavier motors due to increased fan diameter. To address this issue, the industry has explored alternative designs such as unducted fan motors, which move larger masses of air efficiently. Historical attempts at such designs, such as the Pratt & Whitney Allison 578-Delta X-ray and the General Electric GE 36, demonstrated the potential for fuel savings and operational efficiency. Despite their innovative features, these motors have not been further exploited due to challenges such as noise levels and mechanical complexities.
