TRADER JOES TASTE TEST

Simple recipes / Wanda Abraham

I'm a recipe developer and chef by trade and while I love cooking most things from scratch there are some dishes that are better store-bought than homemade. And some are even better reheated from frozen than freshly made by me. Trader Joe's soup dumplings are that thing – both TJ's Steamed Pork and Ginger Soup Dumplings and the Steamed Chicken Soup Dumplings are as good as they come.

In Chinese soup dumplings are called xiao long bao which translates to “little basket buns” – the dumplings are steamed and served in bamboo steamers. The dumplings are usually small and round with a delicious filling of pork (or pork and crab roe) and about a teaspoon or two of pork bone broth that bursts with flavor when you bite into it.
