Windows 11 was recently discontinued by Microsoft as a generally available (GA) version, which has been expected for some time now. Many will start thinking about upgrading their PC or installing new copies of Windows 11 on their hardware now that it is officially released.

However, there are some requirements you should be aware of, including the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) device now required to install Windows 11 on your hardware. What is TPM?

Trusted Platform Module (TPM) is a security device that is passive in nature but allows sensitive security information such as encryption keys to be stored. It can be used to store encryption keys for disk encryption as an example. Windows 11 GA obviously requires this hardware device, even though the pre-release versions I installed previously don't.

This video shows you the behavior you see when installing Windows 11 GA in VMware Workstation and the behavior you see without a TPM device. We take a look at how to add vTPM to Windows 11 GA virtual machine running in VMware Workstation and see the difference in behavior during the installation process.
