The two most common types of soups are supa and ciorba. Supele (plural of supa) are usually clear light and sweeter in nature while ciorbele (plural of ciorba) are generally denser and flavoured with borscht or vinegar.
The ingredients vary. Some are based solely on vegetables some are even vegan (the post in the local language) but the majority are meat-based. The most common types of meat used in soups are chicken pork and beef. Lamb soups are also very popular and are eaten especially around Easter.
In some parts of the country especially in Dobruja or in the towns and villages along the Danube fish soups are very popular.
