Children were beaten in school for speaking Welsh my father was one of them. But now every year Eisteddfods festivals are held across the country to celebrate Welsh poetry literature language and music – Wales is known as the “Land of Song”.

Despite a strong national identity the cuisine is not really present. Little was written about Welsh food until the last century and few dishes are considered uniquely Welsh.

This is largely due to a combination of the limited amount of food grown the country's geographical isolation and poverty.
