A little digging online led me to the recipe this cake is likely based on called Torta di Noci a Calabrian walnut cake with just three ingredients.
I'll admit I was skeptical when I made the simple batter but when I felt the knife cut into the cracked crust and moist center I knew this was a special recipe.
It's magic: you only need eggs ground walnuts and sugar to make this delicate and delicious cake. It works not only with walnuts but also with almonds and hazelnuts: I tested them.
