Make porridge like a Scot! BUT with a twist
Serious Mealtimes / Vicky Wasik
Oatmeal can be a sumptuous affair laden with milk or cream topped with flowing rivers of butter drizzled with honey or maple syrup garnished with fruit and flavored with nut butters and spreads. I love this kind of oatmeal and have recipes like a banana-foster-inspired peanut butter oatmeal and a rich and creamy milk-based oatmeal . But oatmeal doesn’t have to be loaded with all that stuff to be great and for proof look no further than the Land of Oats itself: Scotland.
I don’t know if the Scots would agree with this nickname I’ve given them but unless they’d rather I call them the Land of Baked Mars Bars I’m sticking with it. Even our new AI overlords agree with me: when I asked ChatGPT which country I’d refer to as The Land of Oats it replied: “My best guess would be Scotland. Scotland is famous for its oats a staple grain traditionally used in a variety of Scottish dishes most notably porridge and oatcakes. Scotland’s climate and soil conditions are particularly well-suited to growing oats making them a prominent part of the country’s agricultural and culinary traditions.” So as we all know if the AI says it it must be true.
