Welcome to my video description,

The telecoms sector regulator said that if a SIM card has been swapped or replaced, the mobile number associated with it will not be allowed to be transferred to another telecoms company for a period of seven days. The regulator has amended the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) Regulations and set additional conditions for portability to curb the practice of mobile number portability by means of fraudulent SIM swapping or replacement with unscrupulous elements. As per the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai), through the amendment, an additional criterion for rejecting the application for grant of a Unique Porting Code (UPC) has been introduced.
"More specifically, the UPC should not be assigned if the UPC request was made before the expiration of a period of seven days from the date of SIM card exchange or mobile number replacement " said Trai.
The new regulations will come into effect from July 1, 2024. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) had written to Trai in September 2022 about criminals/fraudsters porting mobile connections through fraudulent swaps and replacements of SIM cards. To curb it, the regulator was asked to incorporate additional conditions into the MNP regulations.
