Transfer files from a host to a guest Virtual Box virtual machine without guest additions

It often happens, for UNKNOWN reasons, that the transfer of files from the HOST machine to the GUEST virtual machine fails, even when the Add Guest CD has been correctly installed. Two-way transfers are enabled!
