Gymnast and Olympic medalist Nile Wilson draws on his own personal mental health challenges as a sports pioneer to shine a light on the challenges many professional athletes face on their journey to becoming champions. Nile Wilson is one of the greatest British gymnasts of all time and was a pioneer of the sport in many ways. He won a bronze medal on the horizontal bar at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, which was the British team's first ever Olympic medal in the discipline. He is also the most successful English gymnast at the Commonwealth Games after his 3 gold medals and 2 silver medals in 2018. However, Nile is much more than just a gymnast: a YouTuber with over 1.5 million subscribers and 350 million total views; a social media influencer; a very successful entrepreneur; an advocate for mental health awareness; and a powerful voice within her sport on the historical treatment of gymnasts. Nile himself has been very open about his own personal struggles with mental health issues and gambling. Nile is an inspiration to millions because of his accomplishments, his humor, and most importantly, his honesty in life. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
