What can hand blenders do?

How a hand blender differs from a regular blender is that instead of pouring the liquid into the blender and turning it on the hand blender is placed in the container of liquid (like a pot of soup) and turned on. You would then rotate the hand blender through the liquid to ensure that it is evenly mixed.

An immersion blender is useful when you have a large amount of pureed soup or other product to work with—more than one blender full which would require you to blend in batches. Then you need another container to hold the blended soup while you finish the job. That means using the first (unblended) container the second (blended) container and the blender itself. With an immersion blender you can blend the soup right in the original pot.

A good hand blender should be powerful enough to process all types of food including cooked meat potatoes vegetables and so on. Some hand blenders for home use are primarily designed for blending drinks making smoothies and so on. Of course the more powerful models are more expensive.
