Boba tea also known as bubble tea is a unique blend of tea milk sugar and chewy tapioca pearls that’s refreshing and satisfying. The drink originated in Taiwan and has found fans all over the world. Today it’s available in hundreds of flavors and styles. Here’s everything you need to know about boba tea what it’s made of and even how to make your own.

Boba tea is made from tea milk water sugar and tapioca pearls. Iced sweet milk tea is shaken vigorously cocktail-style then tapioca pearls are added. Typical versions use black green or oolong tea although more flavors and types have emerged recently. These range from mocha to fruit milks with pearls that can be black white or fruity. Most boba teas are sweet and milky and the milk can range from whole milk to low-fat coconut to almond. Others such as fruit-infused versions may not even contain tea or milk.
