A sweetener for the mouth a freshener for the digestion and a symbol of hospitality: that's paan! Eating paan Indian food is popular throughout Southeast Asia from India to Thailand and from the Philippines to Vietnam. But it is not really a food although it is eaten.

What exactly is paan? Paan is made from betel leaves and is eaten with various fillings on it. The leaf is wrapped and chilled before serving. It is also known as meetha paan vettrilai or thambulum.
