Add staying cool this summer to the list of things that cost more. According to the new energy projections, expect an increase of nearly 8% across the country, or about 719% more to cool a home. How to minimize the impact? Consumer Reports has some recommendations.

First, turn up your air conditioning. It might cause some heated arguments in your home, but you can save up to 10% per year on heating and cooling by simply adjusting your thermostat seven to ten degrees for 8 hours a day. The question is: will you be comfortable?
