WhatsApp kills battery on Android phones
The recent update appears to be draining the battery on some phones, although other users are reporting that everything is normal with WhatsApp on their phones.

On the OnePlus forums, many users are complaining about the WhatsApp update causing battery drain on their phones, especially those using the recent OnePlus 7T Pro, OnePlus 7T, and OnePlus 7 Pro smartphones. “I was wondering why my phone was draining a little faster than usual today. 16% WhatsApp battery consumption after just less than 5 minutes of active use today," says a user with the username KiltedTraveler on Reddit: He's using a OnePlus 7T. "Whatsapp 2.19.308 drained the battery incredibly. I think I saw 33% of WhatsApp's total battery consumption in the stats,” complains another user rektalTushe on Reddit who uses a OnePlus 5.
Currently, OnePlus phones are not the only ones suffering from the battery drain issue. "Indeed! I noticed that my Pixel 3 is consuming a lot of battery (more than normal, a lot more)," says Reddit user Tito1983. "Same problem in S10e… after several updates and after reinstalled, everything seems fine," adds Reddit user Matrix009917. Users are reporting the same issues with the Google Pixel 4, Huawei P20 Pro as well as some Xiaomi phones. "I have the same thing on my Mix 3 , with a European ROM I've lost 20% battery since I woke up, it's been about an hour and WhatsApp is the main culprit,” complains Reddit user Bobbite.
Likewise, many users report no battery drain issues on their Android phones, some of the most popular ones including the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and Samsung Galaxy S10. There has been no official communication from WhatsApp regarding this possible issue yet, nor when a fix can be expected for this.
