WHITE NEGRONI – Modern Classic Cocktail Recipe
Serious Mealtimes / Vicky Wasik
The invention of the White Negroni is directly attributed to Wayne Collins a London bartender who was in Bordeaux France in 2001 to compete in the Drinks International cocktail competition at Vinexpo a prominent spirits trade show. He was traveling with Nick Blacknell then CEO of Plymouth Gin and both were looking for a respite from the intense summer heat in the form of a Negroni.
According to Punch their small host town lacked an attractive bar and when they perused the shelves of a local shop they decided to adapt the recipe for a classic Negroni by substituting Suze for Campari and Lillet Blanc for the traditional red vermouth. Without the typical and distinctive crimson colour and now with a distinctly French twist the White Negroni was born.
