Why You Spend So Much Money at Trader Joe's
I regularly drive by my nearest Trader Joe’s scanning the parking lot for empty spots. Most of the time I keep driving discouraged by the parade of oversized vehicles squeezing their way into tight parking spaces. But like a moth to a flame I keep coming back because I can’t imagine life without the frozen orange chicken and the canned smoked trout.
Of course a trip to Trader Joe’s never ends with me walking out with just the orange chicken and smoked trout. “While I’m here I might as well pick up [insert food item here]” is a refrain I sing multiple times every time I visit. And of course any flashy new or seasonal produce goes in the basket because you never know how long it’ll be around (a sideways glance at the pickle seasoning that’s supposed to be used year-round ahem).
As it happens I am far from alone in this compulsion. If the internet and social media are to be believed this is a Trader Joe’s world and we are living in it. But the remarkable thing about the supermarket phenomenon is that they seem to be thriving on their own terms.
