Why Does Pyrex Explode? | How to Cook It Ann Reardon

Simple Recipes / Sally Vargas

As ridiculous as it sounds exploding Pyrex is not an urban legend. Under the right conditions the glassware will dramatically shatter or crack and split. I know because I’ve seen it happen three times. To be fair only one was an explosion. The other two were just fractures. Still they were disappointments. While Pyrex explosions are far from an everyday occurrence they are not rare. They are completely preventable if you follow a few simple guidelines.
