Packing another lunch for my 8 year old
Before the start of this school year I hadn’t packed a school meal since March 2020. That’s about 500 days for those keeping track.
Before you say "You're so lucky" know that it's not because we started buying hot lunches regularly or because I miraculously hired a chef. Instead my two elementary-aged children hadn't been in a full day of school in 1.5 years which is why they didn't bring lunch.
Early in the pandemic family lunches at home were pretty good. We all ate together and no one was picky about what we ate. When we realized we were going to be doing this for a long time and school and work got back to their normal rhythm that stopped and it started more of a steady stream of interruptions when someone was hungry or had a break.
